Nice to meet you,
I’m Brittany.

A bit about me: I am a creative, compassionate, and curious person with over 13 years of experience working in the mental health field. As a queer, neuro-spicy gal, I value direct communication, artistic expression, and expansive thinking. I’m known for colorful spreadsheets, flip-charts, and guided imagery exercises, as well as my appreciation of music and laughter.

Over the past few years, focused mindfulness and somatic work has transformed my experience of my Self and life, both personally and professionally. That is why  my services aim to help others truly thrive in the present; “the here and now” as they say.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have partnered with Mentaya to help you use your out-of-network benefits to save money on therapy. Use this tool below to see if you qualify for reimbursement for our services.

  • I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Pennsylvania, Certified in Brainspotting.

I am queer affirming, neurodivergent affirming, and inclusive. I honor my responsibility to learn about lived experiences and cultures that are different from my own, while acknowledging that shared culture does not mean “knowing.” Each of us is unique, and has a personal experience of our identities.

I am client-led, compassion focused, and relational. Person-centered, skills based interventions are used to guide the rapport building and resourcing process. As a Brainspotting Therapist I intentionally integrate advanced trainings, continued professional development, and my lived experience into my work as a Specialist.

  • Yes, in addition to In-Person Sessions in Pittsburgh, I also offer Virtual Therapy Sessions to those located in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and across the state of Pennsylvania.

TeleHealth is just as effective for most, and a great way to connect when we can’t in-person. Due to Licensure Restrictions, you must be located in PA during your TeleHealth session.

  • Initial Video Consult: no charge

    Fee: $150/hr

    Group Session: sliding scale

A Good Faith Estimate will be provided following your initial consult outlining your estimated financial investment.

  • For In-Person services:

Arrive 10 minutes early as this gives you time to check-in and reflect on your week. You can use the time to prepare and consider your session focus.

Bring non-noise cancelling headphones that work with your cellphone to connect with Bilateral Stimulation Music. This is recommended as an external resource during sessions to support regulation.

Consider bringing your journal for thoughts, doodles, notes, etc.

Bring your ESWB (emotional support water bottle…

Don’t forget your favorite fidget! But if you do, I have a collection too…

Additional Preparations for TeleHealth Virtual services:

Be in a quiet, private location.

If others are in the home/office at the time of your session, please close the door to the room that you are in. Consider having a sound machine on outside of the door for privacy.

If you are in a vehicle, try to park away from other cars to reduce distractions. No driving while therapizing.

    Have a strong internet connection.

Have a comfortable spot to sit in, and place your video device on a stable surface at eye level. Laptops are ideal, but a smartphone can be used for TeleHealth as well.

Have a pen/pencil/pointer nearby, as well as an eye patch/goggles/glasses with a tissue. We will chat about these Brainspotting Tools more at the Assessment.

  • The time scheduled for individual therapy is held exclusively for you.

We require more than 48 hours notice regarding cancellation as this allows enough time to offer the session to another person waiting.

Our policies are boundaries set in place to ensure that we can continue to provide specialized care to our community.

  • You have the freedom to choose your therapist, treatment length, and therapy type. Insurance can restrict these choices, so we offer a variety of payment options and services types to support our community.

    Direct Private Pay

Many prefer Direct Private Pay to keep their therapy confidential, avoiding insurance requirements like mandatory diagnoses and shared records. This option is ideal if you’re concerned about privacy, want to avoid pre-existing condition labels, or seek more control over therapist selection and therapy types. Direct Private Pay also allows access to specialized treatments not covered by insurance benefits.

    Using Insurance

We are currently in-network with UPMC Health Plan. If we are out-of-network with your specific plan, you'll pay upfront, but we can provide a SuperBill each month for reimbursement. On average, people report 70% reimbursement. If you opt to use insurance benefits, remember that it requires sharing clinical information with your insurer. Confirm your coverage, co-pays, and deductibles before your first session to determine what you will owe per visit.

    Managing Costs

You can use Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) to pay for any of our counseling services.

    Choosing What’s Best for You

Decide between Direct Private Pay and using insurance based on your treatment needs, privacy concerns, and financial situation to find the best support for your mental health journey. We would be happy to discuss options at the free initial video consult, and will provide referrals if we are not the best fit.

  • Look on the back of your insurance card for Behavioral Health or Member Services.

    Questions to ask your Insurance:

    If In-Network:

    1. What is my coverage for outpatient mental health services?

    2. What copay, deductible, or OOP expense will I owe Hautz Counseling for treatment codes 90791 (Initial Evaluation) and 90837 (55 minute psychotherapy)?

    3. If deductible, what is my yearly deductible, and has it been met yet, and When does it reset?

    4. What is the reimbursement rate (this is the discounted rate you will owe if you need to pay your deductible first) for an out-of-network mental health provider for treatment codes 90791 (Initial Evaluation) and 90837 (55 to 60-min psychotherapy)?

    5. Is there a difference in cost if the session is done via TeleHealth vs In-Person? What is the difference?

    6. Is prior authorization required?

    7. How many therapy sessions are covered per calendar year?

    8. Are there any limits to my coverage?

    9. What is the Reference Number for this call?

    If Out of Network (OON):

    1. What is my coverage for outpatient mental health services?

    2. Am I covered by you for out of network coverage? At what percent?

    3. What is my yearly deductible, and has it been met yet? When does it reset?

    4. What is the reimbursement rate for an out-of-network mental health provider? (Specific details and codes will be provided to you following initial consultation via a Good Faith Estimate).

    5. Is there a difference in cost if the session is done via TeleHealth vs In-Person? What is the difference?

    6. Is prior authorization required?

    7. How many therapy sessions are covered per calendar year?

    8. Are there any daily or yearly limits to my coverage?

    9. What is the Reference Number for this call?

We also recommend you have a notepad ready when you call. In addition to the answers to these questions, document the name of the person you spoke to and ask for a reference number for the call, ensuring that your communication with the insurance company is documented on their end as well. This will aid you if they deny a claim and you want to appeal the denial.

    Additional Information

Do I have OON Benefits? PPO, EPO, HMO?

PPO Health Plans typically have OON Benefits attached to them. EPO and HMO plans typically do not. We have partnered with Mentaya to help clients use their out-of-network benefits to save money on therapy.

Single Case Agreement or EAP Services?

Due to privacy concerns and high costs, we cannot take on SCAs or provide EAP Services at this time.
